New services for the Milan Cathedral thanks to Wireless coverage
Networking & Infrastructure
An innovative, functional infrastructure
Symbol of the Lombard capital, the main Italian church, third in the world for surfaces covered, the Milan Cathedral attracts millions of visitors every year.
The Veneranda Fabbrica of Milan Cathedral chose Vodafone in partnership with STIM to handle the Wi-Fi coverage of the entire museum complex linked to the cathedral.
After introducing several novelties to improve the visitor experience, in 2019 the Dioceses decided to invest in Wi-Fi cabling for the entire area; to create an innovative, functional infrastructure.
The WI-Fi will then enable innovative projects, dedicated apps and new functionalities, like downloading information and multimedia contents; improving use of the museum and simplifying accessibility.
STIM & Vodafone: Together to design Excellence
STIM and Vodafone synergically designing an efficient, secure, fast WiFi connectivity system, equipped with two separate virtual networks (VLAN), one for visitors, the other for Museum employees; thanks to the Access Point system implemented, the network supports the new Standard AC and Smart Antenna Wireless technologies, for a system that offers the highest technology level currently available on the market in performance, quality and reliability.
A forward-looking Wi-Fi networks
The infrastructure is based on a network managed by switch Layer 2 PoE; security is guaranteed by a Next Generation Firewall, while WiFi network management is assigned to a Controller, ensuring excellent coverage of every point in the building and real time maintenance.
The STIM engineers handled the survey stage, analysis, test and quality certification of the system and of performance achievable, while a team of expert builders built the cutting-edge wireless infrastructure for usability and technological level, even customising some AP in shape and colour to camouflage them amongst the spires in order to blend with the Cathedral aesthetics.
